Being a nurturer and a caregiver has always come very naturally to me. I never anticipated those innate qualities would eventually merge with my passions for health, psychology and the traditions of yoga.
ALL OF THESE PIECES HAVE ULTIMATELY GUIDED ME INTO THE ROLE OF A BIRTH WORKER.
After completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, I knew graduate school was somewhere in my future. At the same time, I felt called to deepen my personal yoga practice, travel, and do some soul searching to pinpoint exactly what my inner drive was striving towards.
Finding a path of healing through yoga and alternative medicines led me to discover the California Institute for Human Science, where I completed a master’s degree in Integral Health. This education was far more than academic, as we delved into consciousness studies, Eastern philosophy & spirituality, Eastern medicines, shamanic traditions, quantum physics, alternative medicines, epigenetics & energetic healing arts.
As I approached my final year, I wondered… how was I going to take these philosophical and unique concepts and cultivate a service that felt relevant and approachable to people seeking holistic wellness and living?
I WAS EAGER TO CREATE A PRACTICE THAT EQUALLY PRIORITIZED EMOTIONAL, MENTAL, PHYSICAL, AND SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING.
A number of synchronistic meetings and encounters introduced me to holistic doula and midwifery care. I devoted my final thesis project to exploring the complex history of obstetrics and midwifery in the U.S., and further developed a model of care that aims to integrate these deeply severed fields.
Within just a few months of graduating from the master’s program with CIHS, I began supporting families through their birth and postpartum journeys.
SINCE THEN, THE HEART OF MAITRI ARCHIVES HAS SLOWLY EMERGED INTO THE VIBRANT EXPRESSION IT IS TODAY.
MY PHILOSOPHY + VISION
Our country has the highest rate of maternal mortality of all developed countries and it continues to increase; yet our maternal healthcare system is a $111 billion industry with the most advanced technologies available.
There are deep misalignments within hyper-medicalized models of care, leading both providers and parents to wonder, what are we missing?
TRUST IN PHYSIOLOGICAL CHILDBIRTH
INFORMED CONSENT
EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES
MATERNAL AUTHORITY & DECISION MAKING
DIVERSITY/EQUITY IN HEALTHCARE & BIRTH WORKERS
These are the values rewriting the frontier of the modern, holistic approach to maternal healthcare - a paradigm that integrates the traditions of midwifery with the emergent technologies of obstetrics.
These are the values that sit at the core of my practice as a birth worker, & what I aim to instill within every family I serve.
No matter the provider or environment you chose for your birth journey, these values can and should be available to you — through self-advocacy, the support of your doula, and hopefully from your provider.
MY VALUES
A SAFE, INFORMED, CONSENSUAL, AND POSITIVE BIRTH IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT.
Advocating for your own autonomy and right to make informed decisions for you and your family can be challenging in the birth world as it is.
I recognize that providers’ biases, disinformation and medical malpractice negatively impacts and harms particular populations within the United States more than others. Racism, nationalism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are prominent injustices that take place every day in birth work and risk not only the well-being, but the lives of birthing parents and their babies.
My practice and my services are a safe and empathetic space for LGBTQIA+ families, single parents, non-native families, BIPOC, teen parents, adoptive parents, parents seeking abortion support, and people of all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
While I am not an expert in working within any sole population, I am dedicated to uplifting, supporting, protecting, advocating for and learning from families of all backgrounds and dynamics.
I HONOR YOUR UNIQUE PATH TO BUILDING YOUR FAMILY AND AM HUMBLED BY YOUR OPENNESS IN WELCOMING ME INTO THIS INTIMATE TIME IN YOUR LIFE.
